THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT
NOW PLAYING IN THEATERS
Nicolas Cage stars as... Nick Cage in the action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
Creatively unfulfilled and
facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1
million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous super-fan. Things take a
wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany
Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic
and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones.
From writer/director Tom
Gormican and co-writer Kevin Etten, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is
a sincere, authentic, and hilarious love letter to Nicolas Cage – as you know and
love him … and as you’ve never seen him before. It’s the role he was born to
play.
“Nicolas Cage is
unbelievably talented and can do any genre,” says Gormican. “You’ve seen him in
romantic comedies like Moonstruck, comedies like The Family Man, avant-garde
films like Mandy and Wild at Heart, and even big tent pole franchise movies
like Con Air, Face/Off, and National Treasure. There are very few actors that
can do every genre equally well, who can switch from comedy to drama –
sometimes within the same project – and that’s fascinating to me.”
The faux Cage’s
megalomania has poisoned his relationships with his ex-wife Olivia (Sharon
Horgan) and daughter Addy (Lily Sheen), though he can’t see it. And Nick is
haunted by a shadow – “Nicky,” also played by Cage, is a figment of the actor’s
considerable imagination who bellows for a single-minded focus on movie
stardom. “Nicky has this lanky long hair, and he’s riding Nick about his career
choices,” says Cage. “For me, Nicky steals the show.”
